Cars 6 – Kids’ Cars
Occasionally our children acquired cars, bringing them home; sometimes I “inherited” these. I remember some:
Dodge Challenger, 1974 model, black, Joseph got, influenced by a “friend”; as far as I know, this car never ran.
Dodge Colt; grey, got for Ben from a CTI friend. I towed this car from his college Stonehill after its timing belt failed; we fixed it on the next street Lowell Avenue; the left front brake wouldn’t release and over-heated driving to CTI, and I fixed it at home; I replaced its windshield after Ben cracked it with his “Sunfish” sailboat mast (he later gave the boat to a neighbor).
Ford Thunderbird, dark green, John bought in Providence at night in the rain; he drove next day to college in MI.
Buick Regal, black, John bought in MI; ran out of oil, blew engine in eastern CT and phoned “Dad, what’s it mean when the car sounds like a helicopter?” I drove there to rescue him, and it was towed to our house, diagnosed and then junked.
Toyota Tercel, brown (appropriate), John bought in CT walking on road (desperately needed a car); drove it home, and I discovered rear suspension was broken.
Plymouth Laser, black, Jodo bought from next-door-neighbor boy; front wheel drive shaft broke; went through two axles before figuring something was wrong with the car, we junked it.
VW Golf, black, John bought; rolled it on curve at Exeter Country Club (fell asleep after UPS job in CT), towed here early morning, junked it.
BMW, grey, John bought in CT.
BMW 635csi, red, John bought in CT to upgrade from the prior BMW; after John went back to GMI in Flint MI I “inherited” this car, got parts at ABC in Leominster MA with our Chinese friend Angela’s husband; the car rusted and was finally junked.
Eagle bought from friend at QBC for Irene; died when water pump failed (almost back) on trip to NC.
